My children also love home-made, natural juice popsicles. No extra sugar, no artificial colors and flavors. The only time I had a child totally, unbearably out of control, was right after one of mine ate an artificially colored and flavored popsicle from an ice cream truck. So many reasons why I’m never going to do that again!! Their favorite summertime treat is watermelon! You just can’t improve upon the Lord’s colors and flavors! Our main difficulty w/ the sugary offerings comes with visitors from abroad who bring candy for the children. I keep it out of reach and let them have a small amount once a week, when we allow them to have sugar. They usually bring enough to last 6 children for 4 months! Sometimes I question the wisdom of this, though, b/c even having it once creates a craving for more. Sugar is so addictive. I want to train my children, and myself, to have good eating habits for a lifetime!
